Dr. Pam Heinselman honored as AMS Fellow.

The NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory is proud to announce the American Meteorological Society has named Dr. Pam Heinselman a Fellow, recognizing her outstanding contributions to the atmospheric sciences during a substantial period of years.

Heinselman, chief of NSSL’s Forecast Research and Development Division, will be honored with this award in conjunction with the 105th AMS Annual Meeting to be held 12 January-16 January 2025 in New Orleans.

“We are extremely proud of Pam and honored to have a scientist of her caliber on our team,” said NSSL Director DaNa Carlis. “This award is well deserved and recognizes a career dedicated to service, science and people. We look forward to many more years working with Pam.”

“I am truly humbled by this award and want to thank all the voters and members for this recognition,” said Heinselman. “I am honored to join the ranks of the remarkable and distinguished scientists of the AMS Fellows and I can’t wait to get started in this role.”

Fellows are nominated by their peers and elected each year by the AMS Council.

Heinselman has been associated with NSSL for nearly 30 years, including more than 15 years of federal service. Her distinguished career has spanned radar, forecast and leadership roles, including serving as the chief of the Forecast Research and Development Division since 2018. 

Heinselman earned a Ph.D. in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma as well as Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Earth and atmospheric science from Saint Louis University. 

Heinselman joins the distinguished company of other NSSL AMS fellows including Harold Brooks, Don Burgess, Alexander Ryzhkov, Lou Wicker and Dusan Zrnic.
