Doppler on Wheels owned by the Center for Severe Weather Research. DOW6 and DOW7 are both X-Band (3cm). Rapid-Scan DOW transmits 12 simultaneous beams.
Category: V2 Things: Radars
UMASS X-Pol
University of Massachusettes X-Band mobile radar uses a wavelength of 3cm.
UMass W-Band
The University of Massachusettes W-Band operates on a 3mm wavelength to map the reflectivity and velocity fields of the tornado at a range of 3km and at very high resolutions.
TTU Ka-Band
Texas Tech University Ka-Band radar operates on a wavelength of 8.5mm and can detect cloud particles and insects to trace the wind.
SMART-R
Shared Mobile Atmospheric Research and Teaching Radar sends out a radio wave with a 5.5cm wavelength used to detect precipitation. SR1 and SR2 were both used in V2.
CIRPAS-MWR-05XP
Center for Interdisciplinary Remotely-Piloted Aircraft Studies Mobile Weather Radar – 2005.
NO-XP
NOAA/NSSL X-Pol Mobile radar uses a 3cm wavelength to detect smaller particles including cloud droplets. Can distinguish tornado debris clouds from precipitation.
