5.25.09 Mission Summary

VORTEX2 initially targeted a storm in the Texas panhandle near the apex of a dryline bulge. The storm moved slowly northeastward into SW Oklahoma, where it dissipated before becoming a supercell. No radars deployed. VORTEX2 then targeted a supercell farther NE that was moving south-southeast down an outflow boundary. Cell dissipated as teams were deploying. VORTEX2 targeted a third storm in the Texas panhandle, also moving SE down an outflow boundary. Storm displayed a nice WSR-88D signature until VORTEX2 arrived then storm quickly dissipated. Storms probably died because their motion took it farther into the cold air over time. Probably would have sustained if moving more southward.
