Field Campaigns
The UAS team has deployed to numerous tornado, wind, and flash flood events since its inception. In addition to storm surveys of local events near Norman, OK, surveys have been conducted as a part of field campaigns including the Propagation, Evolution, and Rotation in Linear Storms (PERiLS), Targeted Observations by Radars and UAS of Supercells (TORUS), Detecting and Evaluating Low-level Tornado Attributes (DELTA), and Low-Level Internal Flows in Tornadoes experiment (LIFT).
Data Collection
Our usage of video capable quadcopters and multi-sensor capable fixed wing platforms allow for numerous data collection opportunities. General operations utilize the quadcopters to capture videos of potential areas of interest. From the videos, more detailed survey areas are determined. The Trinity F90+ fixed wing platform is then used to capture high resolution imagery in the visible and multispectral spectrums as well as detailed elevation information.
