Texas Tech University scientists will deploy the B probe (a.k.a. Probe 2 or P2) featuring a Vaisala “all-in-one” instrument. This instrument includes a sonic anemometer, acoustic precipitation sensor, hail count, temperature, relative humidity, and barometric pressure sensors. Credit: Texas Tech University

Texas Tech University scientists will also deploy the A probe (a.k.a. Probe 1 or P1) which utilizes a prop anemometer as the wind sensing instrument. It also features a shielded temperature and relative humidity probe, and a barometric pressure sensor. Credit: Texas Tech University

Texas Tech Univeristy will transport the probes in covered trailers, towed with diesel 4×4 trucks. Each trailer can hold 12 probes. The trailer is also equipped with a battery charger with connections to each of the 12 probe stations and an ethernet hub which allows for network communications between each probe for data download and management.
