Teams traveled from Grand Island, Nebraska to stage in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the Arby’s just off the interstate. When we stage, we watch and wait. We watch every move the atmosphere makes for signs of storms developing. The steering committee are in constant discussion as every element comes together. They chose to target a storm near Nebraska City, IA. The media vehicle followed NOAA’s NOXP mobile radar. NOXP set up in the northeast part of the radar quadrant on a hill. We observed small hail, lots of lightning. Upon our return to the hotel in Omaha, we encountered a Yanni concert letting out next door to the hotel. Navigating Yanni traffic with a large mobile radar was impressive.
