{"id":295,"date":"2017-04-05T06:38:53","date_gmt":"2017-04-05T11:38:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/vortexse\/?p=295"},"modified":"2017-04-05T09:55:21","modified_gmt":"2017-04-05T14:55:21","slug":"status-5-apr-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/vortexse\/2017\/04\/status-5-apr-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"STATUS 5 Apr 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Operations have begun this morning, with teams hitting the road around 5 AM. \u00a0We have just launched about a dozen 12Z soundings across N AL and MS. \u00a0Elevated convective cells with a few lightning strikes are moving into the southern part of our domain. \u00a0At this time, it is very uncertain how these cells will influence the surface weather map. \u00a0They are likely to leave behind a pool of cooled outflow air somewhere across the N 1\/2 of AL, and this could be a focus for higher tornado potential later today.<\/p>\n<p>Our teams are deploying to what we call the &#8220;eastern domain&#8221;, focused on Sand Mountain, a gently-sloping plateau in northeast AL. \u00a0We will have a network of 4-5 mobile Dopplers scanning throughout the day in this domain.
