Kurt began his career as a Research Associate with the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies at the University of Oklahoma. Since 1993 he has been employed as a Meteorologist at the National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Norman, OK. Mr. Hondl led the Warning Decision Support System – Integrated Information (WDSS-II) project from 2000 through 2011, and was temporarily detailed to the NOAA Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research for 6 months in 2008/2009. He also served as the Acting Deputy Director of NSSL from March 2010 through April 2011. He was appointed as the Multifunction Phased Array Radar (MPAR) Program Manager in 2012 to lead the research and development efforts of the MPAR program at NSSL. Mr. Hondl was selected as the NSSL Deputy Director in December 2018 and served as the NSSL Acting Director from February 2019 through March 2020 and again from April 2022 through January 2023.
