{"id":623,"date":"2010-06-29T20:00:17","date_gmt":"2010-06-30T01:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/nsslnews\/?p=623"},"modified":"2010-06-29T20:00:17","modified_gmt":"2010-06-30T01:00:17","slug":"nssls-social-connections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/nsslnews\/2010\/06\/nssls-social-connections\/","title":{"rendered":"NSSL&#8217;s social connections"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_633\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-633\" style=\"width: 316px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-633\" href=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/nsslnews\/2010\/06\/nssls-social-connections\/social-screenshot\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-633\" title=\"Social screenshot\" src=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/nsslnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2010\/06\/Social-screenshot1-316x164.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"316\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-633\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Several ways NSSL reaches out to constituents<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NSSL has been exploring the relatively new area of social networking with considerable success.\u00a0 Through Facebook, Twitter, and blogs more people are hearing about our science than ever before.<\/p>\n<p>NSSL created a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/VORTEX2?ref=sgm\">VORTEX2 Facebook<\/a> page in the Spring of 2009 to keep interested people updated on the activities of the biggest tornado experiment in history.\u00a0 To date, this page has 10,559\u00a0 fans!\u00a0 Daily updates were posted during operations, and as analysis of the data begins and results emerge, those will be posted on the site as well.<\/p>\n<p>NSSL&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NOAA.NSSL?v=photos#!\/pages\/Chase-the-VORTEX2-tornado-chasing-wonderdog\/111264102242519?ref=sgm\">Chase StormDawg Facebook<\/a> page also has a growing number of fans:\u00a0 right now 780 since he was started April 21.\u00a0 His posts target a broader audience, including kids.\u00a0 A retired science teacher come up with some questions for Chase StormDawg &#8211; and we are posting the answers daily in the &#8220;Notes&#8221; section of the page.\u00a0 Chase has been in the field with VORTEX2 and reported on daily operations using terms the general public could understand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/VORTEX2?ref=sgm#!\/NOAA.NSSL?ref=sgm\">NSSL&#8217;s Facebook<\/a> page has almost 3000 fans.\u00a0 Here we post photos of celebrations and events, interesting activities, upcoming or active projects and more.<\/p>\n<p>Posts made on Facebook are also &#8220;tweeted&#8221;
