(Photo provided)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>University of Oklahoma Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies researcher David Schvartzman was awarded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ametsoc.org\/ams\/index.cfm\/about-ams\/ams-awards-honors\/ams-commission-awards\/student-awards\/the-spiros-g-geotis-student-prize\/\">AMS Spiros G. Geotis Student Prize<\/a>. Schvartzman is a full-time researcher and a PhD candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering whose work supports NOAA&#8217;s National Severe Storms Laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>The Spiros G. Geotis Student Prize is awarded for an outstanding student paper presented at a technical conference on radar meteorology. His paper, titled \u201cDesign of Practical Pulse Compression Waveforms for Polarimetric Phased Array Radar,\u201d presents practical system considerations to design waveforms with the goal of improving polarimetric radar data quality.<\/p>\n<p>Schvartzman was awarded at the <a href=\"https:\/\/cscenter.co.jp\/icrm2019\/\">39th AMS International Conference on Radar Meteorology<\/a><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5144\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5144\" style=\"width: 780px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/nsslnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2019\/10\/Schvartzman2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5144\" src=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/nsslnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2019\/10\/Schvartzman2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"780\" height=\"702\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/nsslnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2019\/10\/Schvartzman2.jpg 780w, https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/nsslnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2019\/10\/Schvartzman2-600x540.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 100vw, (max-width: 1200px) 60vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5144\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">David Schvartzman at the AMS 39th International Conference on Radar Meteorology with CIMMS Senior Research Scientist Sebastian Torres. He said he \u201ccouldn\u2019t believe it,\u201d when he was told he would be given the award. The award is one of the most prestigious in radar meteorology and it is a national recognition. It will be awarded at the 100th AMS Annual Meeting in Boston on January 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel very grateful and honored by this recognition, and I\u2019m glad that my scientific efforts are contributing to the radar engineering community,\u201d Schvartzman said. \u201cIt means a great deal to me given that there were so many great presentations at the conference, and this is a very important conference in the AMS community.
