{"id":8253,"date":"2014-05-08T17:30:52","date_gmt":"2014-05-08T22:30:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hwt.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/internal\/blog\/?p=8253"},"modified":"2016-10-03T17:52:57","modified_gmt":"2016-10-03T22:52:57","slug":"new-laps-run-boundary-issues-continue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/2014\/05\/08\/new-laps-run-boundary-issues-continue\/","title":{"rendered":"new LAPS run&#8230;boundary issues continue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s the max base reflectivity forecast for 22:15 Z..again , notice the east\/west line of convection along the IA\/MO border.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2014\/05\/laps2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-8255\" alt=\"laps2\" src=\"http:\/\/hwt.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/internal\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/laps2-1024x584.jpg\" width=\"584\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the 23Z forecast.\u00a0 Notice how the western edge of that east\/west line seems to interact with the &#8220;real&#8221; convection line to the west&#8230;taking on less of a linear character and looking more like the individual cells we have been seeing so far.\u00a0 The eastern edge of that east\/west line remains linear and lifts to the northeast.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2014\/05\/laps3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-8256\" alt=\"laps3\" src=\"http:\/\/hwt.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/internal\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/laps3-1024x584.jpg\" width=\"584\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the 23Z CAPE forecast,\u00a0 Notice we continue to see a persistent east\/west oriented waveform along our southern domain boundary.\u00a0 Non-damped boundary waves are being turned into peaks of instability, leading to convective response in the model.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2014\/05\/laps4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-8257\" alt=\"laps4\" src=\"http:\/\/hwt.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/internal\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/laps4-1024x584.jpg\" width=\"584\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Obviously, where a forecaster sees a radar feature in line with spurious model waves, they can discount it.\u00a0 Of concern is when these features interact with\/react to &#8220;actual&#8221; convective features the model is tracking.\u00a0 This could lead to other spurious development or result in contaminating the character of any convection that wanders into the waveform.<\/p>\n<p>db<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s the max base reflectivity forecast for 22:15 Z..again , notice the east\/west line of convection along the IA\/MO border.
