{"id":4004,"date":"2012-05-16T18:46:18","date_gmt":"2012-05-16T23:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hwt.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/internal\/blog\/?p=4004"},"modified":"2012-05-16T18:46:18","modified_gmt":"2012-05-16T23:46:18","slug":"max-updraft-preceding-max-reflecitity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/2012\/05\/16\/max-updraft-preceding-max-reflecitity\/","title":{"rendered":"Max Updraft preceding Max Reflecitity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Late in the afternoon, as convection continued along the southern fringe of BTV&#8217;s county warning area, a storm cell began pulsing up and down.\u00a0 This series of images shows how the max reflectivity on radar and the maximum updraft output from 3D-VAR began oscillating.\u00a0 Maximum updraft strength from 3D-VAR would precede a peak in radar reflectivity by about 20 minutes.\u00a0 We issued a warning for a southern BTV county, based on the Max Updraft data.\u00a0 The storm produced 3\/4 inch hail.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2012\/05\/Max-updraft2-D3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4010\" title=\"Max updraft2 D3\" src=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2012\/05\/Max-updraft2-D3-e1337210844135-1024x319.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"140\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2205z.\u00a0 Reflectivity is maximizing from a previous pulse, and current Max updraft values are less than 10 m\/s.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2012\/05\/Max-updraft-2235.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4024\" title=\"Max updraft 2235\" src=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2012\/05\/Max-updraft-2235-e1337211515347-1024x307.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2235z. Maximum Updraft values around 14 m\/s. Max Reflectivity around 56 dbz.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2012\/05\/Max-updraft-2300.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4025\" title=\"Max updraft 2300\" src=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2012\/05\/Max-updraft-2300-e1337211789786-1024x312.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"137\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2300z.
