{"id":19660,"date":"2023-06-12T10:18:32","date_gmt":"2023-06-12T15:18:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/?p=19660"},"modified":"2023-06-13T10:22:07","modified_gmt":"2023-06-13T15:22:07","slug":"6-12-observations-from-abq-cwa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/2023\/06\/12\/6-12-observations-from-abq-cwa\/","title":{"rendered":"6\/12 Observations from ABQ CWA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c2\"><strong><span class=\"c6\">OCTANE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">Have knots abbreviated as \u201cKTS\u201d instead of \u201cKN\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">Change direction of movement from to lettered degrees instead of a numerical value<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">This product does help me become more aware, in realtime of the winds vertically. \u00a0However, not entirely sure how to adapt this into my forecasting routine yet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><strong><span class=\"c6\">NUCAPS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">Great to see the better sampling\/readout of the data compared to what it was 2-3 years ago<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">The parcel count is a great way to help me gauge the validity of the data (confidence in how accurate it is)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">Overlaying a NUCAPS forecast field with the parcel count allows me to sample what the field has and what the parcel count is so I can have more of less confidence in the data<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">No less than six hours for operational needs. \u00a09 hours might be the perfect duration. \u00a0I usually don\u2019t use hourly data much beyond 9 hours due to my lack of confidence in the reliability of the data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">Hourly data is very nice. \u00a0Half hour spacing is a bit too much data for that duration.<br \/>\n-Something to consider is could there be half hour spacing in the data for the first three hours? \u00a0However I don\u2019t know if that would be enough of a benefit to use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">I would use the 700-500mb lapse rates, ML CAPE, temp and dew point, and parcel count most often.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><strong><span class=\"c6\">PHS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">Very easy to look at; very smooth data<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">Didn\u2019t have much time to look at the data<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><strong><span class=\"c6\">Lightningcast<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"c2\"><span class=\"c0\">Noticed on a well defined supercell the lightning probability is not over 80% despite lightning ongoing. \u00a0Does the program cap at 75-80%?<br \/>\n-Have GLM ligthning data displayed too<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-19661\" src=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/06\/lightning-900x501.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"501\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/06\/lightning-900x501.png 900w, https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/06\/lightning-768x428.png 768w, https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/06\/lightning-600x334.png 600w, https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2023\/06\/lightning.png 1524w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 100vw, (max-width: 1200px) 60vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Otherwise this does help draw my eye to where lightning could occur in the near future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prob Severe<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Didn\u2019t have time to look at it much.
