The legacy MDA (not shown, couldn&#8217;t get the image to save properly) only identifies a couple mesocyclines further south along the line, but identifies them both as being in the lowest scan. The NMDA on the other hand identifies numerous circulations along the line, however none of these are identified as being at the lowest elevation slice.\u00a0 Granted the algorithms typically struggle with linear features, but the MDA seems to be filtering out a lot of the noise and keying on the two stronger areas of rotation while the NMDA seems to be overly sensitive to shear along the line.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17445\" src=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2019\/05\/MDA_2127z_0521.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1524\" height=\"823\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2019\/05\/MDA_2127z_0521.png 1524w, https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2019\/05\/MDA_2127z_0521-900x486.png 900w, https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2019\/05\/MDA_2127z_0521-768x415.png 768w, https:\/\/inside.nssl.noaa.gov\/ewp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2019\/05\/MDA_2127z_0521-600x324.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 100vw, (max-width: 1200px) 60vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>update&#8230;. as the line gets closer to the RDA the NMDA has now detected several areas of rotation which are marked with cross hairs.
